In developed countries calculator gets an important role in the process of learning mathematics. This is indicated by the use of calculators in learning mathematics ranging from basic education to higher education. This type of calculator had great development. Judging from their use, calculator are divided into two types, namely ordinary calculators and scientific calculators. One example of a scientific calculator is a graphing calculator. Graphing calculator has its own advantages than ordinary calculators.
The advantages lies in the ability of the calculators to solve math problem quickly and displays it in graphical form. Another advantage of the graphing calculator that is able to create programs that can solve math problems. Graphing calculator can be used to match the graphic image, match the answer set of the settlement and provide real experiences of drawing graphs. Methods in equations and inequalities to solve problems can be viewed as a command, symbolic manipulation and graphics on the calculator, constraints experienced by students In using the calculator graphs, among others, difficulties in paraphrase sentences in the language of mathematics into the calculator and in expressing any view into the calculator screen mathematical sentences.
The student response to the use of calculators in mathematics learning process, namely :
· Cause students to work on the problems the calculator easier,
· A calculator to make classroom lessons more interesting,
· Calculator as a tool just count,
· With a calculator to learn much more developed,
· Calculators to match the workmanship about.
If the use of graphing calculator without balanced ability to understand the operating procedures and to think mathematically it can cause high levels of dependency, loss of confidence, and lazy thinking.
